What would you do…update

Well, yesterday when I wrote the post, I thought it was all over…but it wasn’t.

I happened to be looking through the ads on craigslist again after blogging (I do this several times a day..especially when there’s something specific that I’m looking for.) and came across an ad listed by the same people, for the same group of appliances. Now I was really mad! I emailed her and basically said, what the heck? I offered her $200 for the set and a guaranteed pick up of that night.

She emailed me back and appologized over and over for what had happened the night before..she felt really bad. Her husband had told her to take care of it and then when she did, he was mad at her. She said that the whole time she just wanted to sell it to me for the original agreed upon price (which was $150) the whole time and it had caused this huge fight. Anyway, she told me that she wasn’t happy with the way she was being treated by the other people that had made offers and said that if I could pick up tonight for $200 then I could have it.

So we did. Josh and my father in law went last night and picked up our new appliances and I’m so happy with them…nothing is actually installed yet, but they’re so pretty! Solid black glass cooktop oven with all the bells and whistles, really nice looking black dishwasher, etc. I can’t wait to get them installed.

We may have broken up a marriage, but we got a great deal!

(I really hope there’s no truth to the first part of that statement!)

I’ll take some before/after pics of our new appliances and blog about it when I can.

What would you do?

So today’s post is going to be a bit of a vent..so bear with me. I am angry and frustrated right now. As some of you may or may not know, we are trying to fix up our house and we have very little money to do it with. Our funds are dwindling rapidly and we still have the biggest room to deal with. Anyway, one of the things that I want to do is get ‘new’ appliances. By ‘new’ I mean used but newer than what we have and all in the same color (black). Anyway, yesterday, I found an ad on craigslist which I have been scouring every day. It was an ad for a black oven, dishwasher and over the range microwave. They had to have them out by tonight because they’re getting new ones. They looked really good. They didn’t have an asking price on them it said to just make an offer. So I emailed and made an offer for the oven. A low offer. I knew it was low..I figured if she wanted she could counter offer. She emailed back just minutes later and said, “we’ll take it!” I was so excited. We emailed back and fourth a few times about when to pick up, etc. In the midst of it I asked her what she would take for all three things. She gave me a figure. I talked it over with Josh and we decided to go ahead and do it. I agreed, she agreed, we all agreed. We planned on picking them up the next evening (tonight). Later on last night I get an email from her saying that her husband was furious with her, she accepted my offer without consulting him and throughout the day they had gotten several offers that were much higher than mine. Either I had to pay X number of dollars higher to match other offers or they were going to give it to someone else.

Now does this surprise me? No. I’ve dealt in craigslist enough to know that people are flaky and generally only out for money. However, what the heck? She is the one that gave me the figure. She agreed to sell it to me for whatever price. What has happened to common courtesy, honesty, integrity, not to mention honor? I thought long and hard last night about this and put myself in this position to think about what I would do if I was there. Actually, in all fairness, I know better than to actually be in this situation. What she should have said was either, let’s wait til the end of the day and I’ll see if any other offers come in, or I need to check with my husband before accepting offers…I actually have been in this position before..not this large of a scale of things, but I know that I’ve sold things to people when I could have sold it for more because I agreed to sell it for a smaller price. It’s certainly not easy to do, but I know it’s the right thing. I’m just so disappointed about this. I was so looking forward to my new oven. So what would you have done?

Thank God for laminate floors

I guess I’m just doing too much. Trying to cram too much into each day. This morning I was in the middle of painting a table for our room black. When the girls went down for their morning nap, I got out all the paint stuff again in order to do the second coat. I finished and put away all the painting supplies…or so I thought. I went upstairs to do some work in our room upstairs. When the girls woke up, I let them get out and play. During an extended period of quietness I happened to look over and find Kynden and Ellyanna playing in none other than *gasp* a growing puddle of black paint spreading all over our new floor. I had inadvertently left out the can of paint I was using and the girls had dumped it all over the floor.
Of course the natural thing to do was to start freaking out and yelling. This of course was doing me no good. The only thing I could think of to do was to grab Ellyanna who was the closest to me and take her to the bathtub. I threw her in (without water or anything..just somewhere easy to clean that would keep them corralled) and proceeded to run and get Kynden who of course had started to crawl after me, trailing the puddle of paint about ten feet towards the bathroom. I throw Kynden in the tub and rush back to work on the paint puddle. Like the title says…thank God we had the good sense to put our money into laminate floors. The paint cleaned up well. *Just a little side note here..while I was cleaning, Jayden was watching me and gave me some advice. He said, “Mommy, you’re not really dumb old…you’re just old. Kind of. I have no idea what this means, but I thought it was funny.* When I finished with the floor, I went into the bathroom to start on the girls.
This is what I found.
I stripped off the pj’s and put them to soak in the sink. I then proceeded to scrub babies with soap and one of those body poof things. (I have found that they are great for removing paint from skin.) The girls did not like this process very well.
This is the wash cycle.
After the wash cycle I drained the water and started with clean water and repeated the process. After the bath was done, I then had to (of course) scrub the bathtub. I put the soaking pajamas into the washer along with a couple other things that got saturated with paint. Amazingly enough they actually came clean! I was pleasantly surprised!
After about an hour worth of work everything was finally put back to normal. I’m going to be a little more careful about paint from now on. It’s different with 3 one year olds.
*PS. Colette, these are pics of our new bathtub covered in black paint.* =)

It’s about time

It’s about time that I blogged again. It’s been a long and full couple of weeks.

As of tonight, we will have lived in our new house for one whole week. Happy anniversary to us! As I write this, Josh is upstairs laying floor in the last room (our bedroom). Well, last room for now…we technically have still the second bathroom floor to do as well as what we call the mud room. Not to mention the room we affectionately call the “grow room”. The former owners of our house had several pot plants and that is where they grew them. We later found out from our new neighbor that the lady that lived here worked for the medical ,marijuana organization and her husband was a disabled veteran who has a medical marijuana license. So at least it was legal. =) After we finish the bedroom, we will have laid new floor in approximately 1300 square feet of our house. It is so much better than what was here before and I’m really proud of us! I won’t go into all the things that we’ve done over the past couple weeks, but yesterday I decided to start a list of all the things that I did that day so that I could blog about it. So what follows is a list of my day yesterday. I don’t do everything on this list every day of course, but this is typical of the amount of work that I’ve been doing every day since we moved in.
*I actually slept in today til about 8am (normally I’m up around 6:30am or so)
*get babies out of bed
*make hot chocolate/coffee for me and boys
*make phone calls to set up our new account for our water bill
*put babies in high chairs for cheerios and bananas
*get Jayden some cereal
*unload/reload dishwasher
*change diapers..leave 2 babies naked to air out diaper rash
*clean up potty puddles
*make 3 bottles
*get babies redressed, diaper cream and diapered
*babies down for nap
*take shower
*get dressed/make-up
*wipe down counter/sink/toilet
*pick up clothes from bathroom floor
*make a pop tart
*eat while writing down everything I’ve already done
*fix volume on tv for boys
*change light bulb in laundry room
*clean ceiling in laundry room
*clean light fixture
*put clothes in my bed to fold later
*start new load of laundry (PS. I’m pretty sure this marked the millionth load of laundry that I’ve already done in our new house.)
*clean/sweep laundry room
*clean/sweep kitchen dining room
*take garbage out
*spread bark dust in the flower bed that I weeded/cleared and planted in yesterday
*search for the cat
*make bottles
*start clearing the boxes from the hallway
*start another load of laundry
*bottle hunt in girls’ room
*clean hallway
*sweep hallway, living room, dining room
*make boys clean 20 things in their room
*make lunch for everyone-(peanut butter and banana for girls, pbj for bryce, bologna for jayden and croissant for me)
*eat lunch
*cut up fruit for girls
*sit and enjoy watching the girls eat

At this point, obviously it was lunch time..probably about 12:45. I figured that no one is going to want to read all the things that I do for the rest of the day because it’s incredibly boring. So I stopped writing stuff down. But the rest of the day continued much of the same way.

Well, this is a long and boring post and if you all have read all the way to here, you must really like me. Thanks.
